ABOUT THE DEVELOPER: MEET THE CHANG FAMILY

Ililani Condominiums brings together three generations of architects from the Chang family of Oʻahu. Brothers Ken and Henry Chang, who are both graduates of Punahou School, began their careers as young architects working in their father’s firm, Sam Chang Architect & Associates.

Their father partnered with famed Hawai‘i architect Vladimir Ossipoff on several projects, including Honolulu International Airport (now Daniel K. Inouye International Airport). Growing up, Ken recalls hearing his father and Ossipoff talk about outdoor living and the importance of the lanai and how it is a cornerstone in the Hawai‘i way of life, which is why all units in their 42-story building feature a lanai.

Guided by the spirit of their parents, Pauline and Sam Chang, Ken, Henry and Ken’s son Garrett are committed to building well-priced, quality homes for local families.

NEW BUSINESSES AND SPECIALS AROUND KAKAʻAKO

While most businesses are open now with some restrictions, the once bustling Kakaʻako neighborhood is still mostly quiet these days as Hawai‘i deals with the COVID-19 pandemic. As our communities work to “flatten the curve,” local businesses would love your support. Here’s a look at some of the new businesses, sales, and specials happening right now in Kakaʻako:

  • FREE PARKING STUDIO: Need some new aloha shirts for your next Zoom call? Check out Free Parking Studio, a new addition on the ground level of SALT at Our Kaka‘ako. The store has an awesome selection of vintage aloha shirts and other cool vintage pieces for women as well. Visit them online at www.freeparkingstudio.com.

  • LANIKAI JUICE: Get 10% off your next smoothie by ordering one of the daily promotions posted on Instagram. On Saturday, August 8, you can enjoy a Dr. Green smoothie with local greens, orange, pineapple, banana, ginger, mango juice, and honey. The shop is located on the ground level at SALT. For the full menu, visit www.lanikaijuice.com.

  • RICK’S JERK: Food trucks are back in Kakaʻako! If youʻre craving some Jamaican food, stop by for “Don’t Be A Jerk Wednesday.” Enjoy a $10 jerk chicken plate (usually $15) available for pickup all day. Rick’s Jerk is parked by the basketball courts at Mother Waldron Park, but he does travel to other parts of Oʻahu. Find out where the truck is and check out the full menu on Instagram at @ricksjerk.
